Protein Treatments for Relaxed Hair and Virgin Hair Extensions
Hair needs a balance of protein and moisture to stay strong and healthy. Most people use moisturizing products on their hair, however they tend to forget about protein. Protein is important to a hair regimen because it decreases hair breakage and shedding. These three protein treatments work well on relaxed hair and two can also be used on your hair extensions.
Aphogee Keratin & Green Tea Restructurizer
This is not an intense protein treatment; it’s more of a maintenance protein treatment in addition to other products. After using a moisturizing deep conditioner, this product can be sprayed on your real hair to add a little protein. It does make your hair stronger, but it takes much longer than cream based protein treatments.
However, this product works well on virgin hair. After spraying this on my extensions for years, it has helped to ward off split ends for a very long time. When using this product make sure the hair is partially dry. Since this product is a liquid, it will run off wet hair and not be absorbed.
Silicon Mix Proteina de Pearla (Pearl Protein)
Silicon Mix makes great deep conditioners and the Proteina de Pearla is their protein deep conditioner. This product has a very strong scent that last up to two weeks. Before you purchase this product you should smell it to make sure you like it. This product should be used after a moisturizing deep conditioner and with a plastic cap for about 20 minutes. This treatment is very affordable, which is why it is one of my favorite deep conditioners for my real hair and extensions.
After a while your hair extensions become lifeless from brushing and combing them everyday. This conditioner will bring them back to life. Just liberally apply the conditioner to the weave and place it in a plastic bag. Close the bag and leave it overnight. In the morning, rinse the hair extensions and they will seem like new.
Keratin Protein Deep Conditioner
Of all the protein conditioners I’ve tried, this is my favorite one for my real hair. You’ll find it in your local beauty supply along with the other packet conditioners. It usually cost from $1.50 to $2.50 depending on where you buy it. After using this product your hair will feel strong and baby soft. Apply this product after you shampoo your hair. I wear a plastic cap for 20 minutes while I have this product in my hair. Once you wash it out, use a moisturizing deep conditioner to make your hair even softer.
I experienced less shedding and breakage after using this product only one time. Buying enough packets to give your hair extensions a protein treatment isn’t practical which is why I only use this product on my real hair. If you’ve never tried a protein treatment on your hair before, this should be the first product you try.
