Pralayin' In Prague
Prague is one of those cities that are always included in the international city list. The clocks on the wall will be lined up with all their respective times. Paris, London, Tokyo, Beijing, and so forth. Towards the end of the line you’ll see Prague.
In September 2019, I was able to spend a weekend in Prague for work. Now, I know why they have a clock on the wall.
In case you need some more context and you’re thinking “Where is Prague?” Prague is located in the Czech Republic, which is in Europe. The city is the capital of the country and is the 13th largest city in the European Union.
Prague has a reputation as a party town. When you walk the streets there are bachelorette and bachelor parties on every other street. I can absolutely see why these kinds of groups flock here. The first reason, it’s so affordable. About $1 USD is equal to $26 Czech Crown. Secondly, most places took credit cards. Thirdly, they have Uber. Those 3 things are the trifecta of a great international vacation.
The city is very walkable in certain areas but some of the attractions are far from the city center. That’s no problem. They have a fairly comprehensive public transit system. However, if you’re lazy the average Uber ride is less than $7.
What I personally love about the city is its old charm. Although they have modern conveniences, the streets are still paved with stone and the city centers are still very quaint. The shops and restaurants are small. Even in the most modern places, you’ll find a historical dish or reference. I really appreciate that.
Two of the most popular tourist spots are the Charles Bridge and The Prague Castle. The Charles Bridge is crowded but it’s still a great spot for pictures. It’s more of a quick walk through kind of situation, not a stay all day thing. The Prague Castle on the other hand is where you will want to spend at least an hour. At the castle there is a garden and there are many buildings so you will want to spend a considerable amount of time there. It is a lot of walking so make sure you have good walking shoes.
I loved the restaurants, cafes, bars, and Shisha (Hookah) spots. Everything felt local. Nothing was pretentious. In terms of nightlife, I went to some bars that were cool. One place we went to had a futuristic junkyard theme and was 4 levels of techno. Very interesting.
The overall feel of Prague was very laid back. I wouldn’t say that I experienced a usual amount of racism. There was a lot of starring mostly and there were a few black people I meet who actually live in Prague.
I’m so glad that I had the chance to visit this historic city. I personally could see why so many people come here for celebrations, it’s really a fun loving quaint city.
