Am I An Apple Fan Girl? A Retrospective

I have a whole lot of Apple products. I didn’t even really realize this until I was watching a YouTube video the other day. In the YouTube video I was watching, the gentleman was ranting that iPhone 11 Pro was better than Samsung S20 Ultra. Even I was like really bro? They are both amazing phones they are just different.

Then I started thinking. I have:

  • Macbook Pro

  • iPhone

  • Apple Watch

  • iPad

  • Apple Music

  • Powerbeats Pro

That’s at least $4,700 in products not including accessories. I give Apple a lot of money. There’s a reason I spend it though. The products are high-quality and “the ecosystem”. I wasn’t always this way which is why I’m trying to back track and see how this happened.

My first Apple product was an iPod. I had over 5,000 songs on that thing. I had 3 or 4 different iPods. What I loved was the portably of my music collection. Back in the day I used to have to carry around dozens of CDs everywhere I went, so this was just so much more easier. The second product I got was an iPad. I love to use my computer in my bed so a tablet was perfect for that. It automatically had all the songs from my iPod so it was a smooth transition.

At this point, I had a Toshiba computer and an android phone. I had friends that used iPhones but I wasn’t sold, especially since they were always more expensive than Android phones at this time.

A major change in my thinking happened in 2012 when I was gifted my first MacBook from my amazing parents. It was a graduation gift and it helped me get through graduate school. The MacBook was light years ahead of my Toshiba and I was instantly impressed. InDesign and Final Cut Pro also helped to sell me.

The MacBook was the key product that made me loyal Apple customer.

Once I had the MacBook, I began keeping up with the new iPhones that would come out. I still wasn’t buying one. Then I got a Note Edge and was hooked on the big screens. At this point the prices of Android phones were the same price as Apple phones so I started looking at Apple phones more seriously.

Then my Note Edge was breaking down. I was going to get the Note 8 but then the batteries we’re blowing up. So, I went to get an iPhone. My Samsung literally died in the Apple store. The employees even let me use the store phone to call my Mom.

What is the answer to the question? No, I am not a fan girl. I think people cross over into fandom when then blindly follow a brand. I can admit Apple is not the perfect brand and has made mistakes. No one is above reproach. I think they are trying to do better which I appreciate.

If you love Apple products, let me know which one is your favorite and why.
