Choosing A New Phone Shouldn't Be This Hard

I love to buy new tech gadgets. The new features automatically make your current item feel outdated. Usually, I run out, buy the new thing, and that’s it. The last cell phone I purchased was my iPhone 7 Plus as a Christmas gift for my self almost 3 years ago. I used to buy a phone every two years however I was content with my 7 Plus.

Photo from Apple.com. So many choices.

Now, I want a new phone. Since Apple has released so many phones (the XR, XS and the XS Max) I am actually have a tough time trying to decide which one to get. At this point I have watched so many YouTube videos I have confused myself. Here are some of the factors that are making this decision difficult for me.

1) These phones are expensive

Cheap phones aren’t good and good phones aren’t cheap. However, I didn’t want to have to fork over so much money for a new phone. These are the prices of the phones for consideration:

iPhone XR 128 GB- $799.99

iPhone XS 64 GB- $999.99

iPhone XS Max 64 GB- $1,099

Yeah these prices are crazy. However, the Samsung phones are just as expensive as Apple so I’m just going to have to get over it. I really need to figure out which features are important to me and if they are worth paying extra money for them. I once heard that a purchase is a good value if you can divide the price by everyday you use it and it comes out to about a dollar a day. Assuming I use the phone for 2 years, the XR would be $1.09 a day, the XS would be $1.37, and the XS Max $1.51.

2) The most features possible

Since I’m going to have this phone for over 730 days, I need the most advanced phone possible so it won’t become outdated so fast. I love watching videos so I want an amazing screen. Battery life is important. The XS and XS Max both have OLED screen and the XR has an LED screen. The XR and XS Max screens are closer to my preference. Would I sacrifice size to get the newest features? I don’t know. I like having dual cameras also.

3) Having no regrets

Yes, I could always exchange the phone if I don’t like it. However, I don’t want to go throw that long process twice. So I’m trying to make the right decision the first time. I still have more research to do. Click here for a comparison of the 3 phones.
