A Cautionary Tale: True Indian Hair Company’s Malaysian Wavy

There are few things more regrettable than not following your own advice. Instead of going with your gut feeling, you do something else and the outcome is less than favorable. This is exactly what happened to me when I purchased my newest hair from True Indian Hair Company.

True Indian Malaysian Wavy Virgin Hair

After wearing virgin hair from other companies for over four years, I decided I wanted to make an investment in some really “good” hair. I began my research with the most popular companies and some new companies I never heard before. After seeing dozens of bad reviews I decided to get some recommendations from the pros. I saw that Angela Christine from WE TV’s L.A. Hair had recommended True Indian Hair Company based out of New York City.

True Indian Hair Company has 3 brick in mortar locations n New York City that you could purchase the hair from. I like the idea of buying the hair from an actually local store instead of online. My thinking at the time was that I would be able to tell if the hair was good quality if I could see it first.

The hair is dry and easily becomes tangled.

The hair is beautiful and it looks very natural. The roots and mid-lengths feel soft and have a lot of body. The ends however are very dry. You’re going to have cut at least 3 to 4 inches from the bottom. The hair looks nice and you’ll get a lot of compliments. Overall. True Indian’s Malaysian Wavy hair is dry and hard to manage.

The first sign that I ignored when buying this hair is that there were barely any reviews. There were only two or three videos giving the hair good reviews. All the people who reviewed the hair had very thin weaves done with 2 or less bundles.

The second sign that I ignored was that they wouldn’t accept credit card payments online. Since they don’t accept credit or debit cards, they want you to send a money order to their store. That’s an irresponsible way to send a stranger a large sum of money. At that point, I just went in to the store.

The third sign that I ignored was that they had different cash and credit prices. When the total was added for the three bundles I wanted, it was higher than expected. The woman at the cashier then went on to tell me she could give me a deal if I pay in cash. I purchased my hair from the Brooklyn location and then purchased another bundle from the Queens location because I wanted my U-part wig to be full.

My first three bundles, 18-inch and two 22 inch, are beautiful ( except for the ends). They are very soft and look great in their natural wave pattern. The 24-inch bundle has been causing me the most trouble. It is basically straight with now wave and is extremely dry no matter how much conditioner I put on it. The matting is out of control. The hair has worst tangles than beauty supply hair. Even if you curl or straighten the hair, the tangling is out of control.

After discovering this, I brought the wig back to the store and explained my issues with the hair. They claimed the hair was tangling because there was too much hair on the wig. One of the True Indian stylist washed and trimmed the wig, she told me this would stop the tangling. Immediately, the hair began to tangle into a large knot an hour later.

I went back and showed them the tangling hair. The store manager then told me she would see what she could do. After the store manager spoke to the owner, they told me they would replace the longest bundle (the 24 inch bundle) since it was tangling the worst in the back.

I will create an update post to let you know how this situation is resolved. My advice would be to spend your money somewhere else, don’t buy hair from True Indian Hair Company.
