Beauty Battle: Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade vs. Benefit Brow Zings

“Eyebrows frame your face.” This idea that your eyebrows are the foundation of any beauty look is what makes doing them so hard. There is so much pressure to make them look the same and perfect. This makes choosing a brow product a daunting task.

I have personally tried every type of brow product on the market. Pencil, powder, liquid, gel, marker, and anything else that promises to fill in your brows. Since my eyebrows are very sparse, I need products that apply to skin and hair. I also prefer for my brows to last all day, even through a good workout.

The brow products that usually fit all my criteria are gel fillers.  First, I outline my desired brow shape with pencil. Then I apply these types of products with an angled brush and small strokes. The best gel brow fillers are Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade and Benefit Brow Zings. However, there can only be one winner.

Benefit Brow Zings are available at Sephora, Ulta, and Benefit Brow Bars. There are 6 different shades, each costing $32. I have dark hair and brown eyes so, I usually wear the darkest shade #6. In addition to the product you also receive a small angled brush and a small pair of slant tweezers.

Brow Zings is one of my favorites because it is fool proof. It is easy to blend over your eyebrow hair and skin and if you use a lot of product it still looks good. The easiest way to apply it is to mix the wax and powder together on your angled brush. Then slowly fill your brows to the desired shape. This product stays in place on skin and hair, so if you have sparse brows it works wonders.

A major drawback to this product is that after two months it looks disgusting. Both the wax and powder clump up, even though they continue to work just fine. Another issue is that they are no shades that are suitable for red or gray eyebrows. The shade range is very limiting, especially since your eyebrow hair is supposed to be a similar color to the hair on your head. The mini angled brush isn’t really that helpful but, the tweezers are amazing.  Let’s review some of the pros and cons of Benefit Brow Zings:

Pros

  • Long lasting
  • Applies to skin and hair
  • Looks natural

Cons

  • Can get mess quickly
  • No red tone shades
  • Cost $32

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade is sold at Sephora and Ulta stores in 11 different shades for $18 each. I wear the shade medium brown. This gel crème product can be applied with an angled brush and it dries very quickly. The color of this product is very opaque in all of it’s shades. It glides smoothly on skin and over hair. The lasting power of this product is good, however you can wipe it away if you are not careful.

The shade ranges has colors for those with blonde, gray, red, and brown eyebrows. For a natural look, just apply this product with small brush strokes. If you are looking for a more glamorous look, patting the product on will make it look darker. This product does have a learning curve and it may take a week or two in order to prefect your technique. Dipbrow is one of my favorite products to use because the shades look like natural eyebrow colors. Also, this product can be used to both outline and fill your brows because it is so substantial. The pot can get a little messy but the product will not get hard for at least 8 months. Here are some of the pros and cons of Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade:

Pros

  • Cost $18
  • Shades for blonde, red, and gray hair
  • Can be applied to look natural

Cons

  • Can smudge or wipe off
  • Take a while to apply correctly
  • Can become dry after 9 months

The winner: Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade may be harder to use, but the $18 price tag and awesome shade range makes it a winner. Benefit Brow Zings isn't twice as good and certainly isn't worth twice the money.
