Beauty and Skincare Products for Traveling Abroad
In early May I went on an amazing trip to Thailand to celebrate my 25th birthday. I visited Bangkok and Pattaya, the trip was absolutely life changing. Before I left, I was agonizing over what makeup and skin care products to pack. After a lot of research I narrowed down what I needed to just a few items.
Before I choose the items I would bring, I did some research about where I was going. The temperatures in Thailand were in the high 90s everyday. The sun felt 10 times stronger and hotter than here in New York. The items I packed are basically what you would need on any summer vacation. Here are some essentials you will need.
Try waterproof/sweat resistant makeup
Once it’s 90 degrees, it’s pretty much guaranteed that you are going to start sweating. I would wear as little makeup as possible so it won’t drip in your eye or transfer to your clothing. If you need to bring makeup, make sure it is waterproof or sweat resistant. There is also transfer resistant makeup that maybe helpful in hot weather locations. Some countries carry very limited shade ranges for makeup, so it is best that you bring your own makeup with you.
Bring sunscreen
Sunscreens in other countries may have different ingredients that can cause allergic reactions or undesired side effects. In Thailand, a lot of the sunscreen products include bleaching agents referred to as “skin brighteners”. Since I was not looking to lighten my skin, it was good thing I brought my own SPF. It’s vital that you protect your skin from the sun’s harsh rays, even on vacation.
Don’t forget your medication and skin care products
The main benefit of bringing your skincare and beauty products from home is that the packaging is in your native language. Chemical peels and exfoliates could have harsh chemicals, so reading the instructions are a vital step. In terms of your medication, you may not be able to get in another country.
Pack the smallest sizes possible
If you’re not checking your bag, all liquids need to be smaller than 3 ounces. Most foundations and specialty skincare products come in 1-ounce containers. If your staying for an extended period of time consider taking a few small bottles instead of on large one.
