A Review: MAC Matchmaster Foundation

MAC foundations are legendary. They are used for photo shoots, weddings and by everyday people who want flawless looking skin. My favorite MAC foundations are Face and Body, Studio Fix Fluid, and Studio Fix Powder Plus. Since I loved their other foundations, I wanted to try Matchmaster.

I purchased this foundation about a year ago because of the “flex color” technology. The shade I was matched for was a 7.5. Macthmaster cost $36 and can be purchased at MAC Stores and counters. I purchased it in the end of spring so I was a little tan. The shade was slightly to dark, but I thought after sometime the color would adjust. It didn’t and it never would adjust its color.

The coverage for this foundation is full coverage. The shade I have is very opaque and I can’t imagine needing multiple coats. The consistency of this foundation is too thick. It feels like loose pudding when you’re spreading it on your face. The coverage also has a very artificial look to it, even more artificial than Studio Fix Fluid.

Although the coverage doesn’t look natural, it’s great for covering acne and breakouts. It’s never a good idea to cover fresh breakouts with foundation, but if it’s an emergency use this foundation. Matchmaster also stands up pretty well to sweat and oil.  It doesn’t make dry spots look cakey either, so it’s good for combination skin.

To be honest, I won’t purchase this foundation again. I only really wanted it because I thought it would adjust to my skin tone so I could wear it all year round. You should get a sample and try this foundation, then see what you think. I don’t think this foundation is worth $36 either, so test it out quickly so you can return it for a different foundation.
