Beauty Battle: Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil vs. MAC Veluxe Brow Liner
One of the first eyebrow products you should try is an eyebrow pencil. Unlike gel crèmes and powders, pencils are mess free and can be used on the go. The best eyebrow pencils have a blending tool attached to the opposite end to make the pencil strokes look more natural.
Your eyebrow color should be a shade or two lighter than the hair on your head. Never use black eyeliner or red lip liner on your eyebrows because it will make them look to harsh and unnatural. After using a pencil, you should apply an eyebrow gel to lock the color in place. Two popular high-end eyebrow pencils are Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil and MAC Veluxe Brow Pencil.
Anastasia Beverly Hills makes amazing eyebrow products including eyebrow pencils. Their perfect brow pencil comes in 8 different shades including shades suitable for red and gray hair. The velvety waxy finish is very opaque and applies well to skin and hair. This pencil can be purchased at Ulta and Sephora for $23. When you sharpen the pencil it comes to a point and the bristles on the brush side are great for blending. The darkest shade is very dark, so the best option for people with brown hair and eyes is the Dark Brown. Although this product is very pricey, it can create very natural looking brows. Here are some of the pros and cons of Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brows.
Pros
Available in 8 different shades
Applies evenly to both skin and hair
Has a shade for red and gray hair
Cons
More expensive than most eyebrow pencils
Only available at two stores (that aren’t online)
Contains Silica and Titanium dioxide
MAC’s Veluxe Brow Liner is a newer brow product from the iconic brand. It comes in 5 shades and cost $19.50. Like all MAC products, this pencil can only be purchased at MAC stores and counters. This pencil has a powdery finish and is only semi-opaque. The formula applies well to hair, however it does not adhere to skin and can easily be wiped away. If your brows are of average fullness this product can be used to achieve a thick brow look. For those with sparse brows this product requires a lot of manipulation and a big time investment to make it work. Sharpening this product is very difficult. When you reach a point, it breaks off or drops out the pencil. Instead of sharpeing it one time, it will take three or four times before the pencil is useable again. Let’s review some of the pros and cons of MAC’s Veluxe Brow Liner.
Pros
Cheaper than other high end brow pencils
Available at all MAC locations
Great for full brows
Cons
Does not adhere to skin
No shade that is complementary for gray hair
Doesn’t sharpen easily
The winner: Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil is opaque and comes in shades complementary is every hair color. This product is worth the money and it’s harder for this pencil to be wiped off compared to its competitors.
