#LipstickList: 4 Bright Red MAC Lipsticks for day or night

The perfect accent to a simple makeup look is a red lip.  Even if you’re not wearing any other makeup, red lipstick can make you look put together. When choosing any lipstick, there are three important factors: undertone, finish and color. The best types of lipstick finishes for the color red are mattes, satins, and stains. Although creamy red lipsticks work, they have more slip and may not stay put on your lips. This slipping can lead to red stains around your lips, on your chin, and even on your clothes.

Red colored beauty products can have one of three different undertones: blue-based, orange-based, and true. True colored red lipsticks look absolutely red and don’t have any other color tones in it. Blue-based red lipsticks are slightly deeper in color and make your teeth look whiter. Orange-based reds are brighter and make your skin look more tan than usual. Once you understand these basics, you can choose the specific shade of red that fits your skin tone best.  Here are 4 bright red best selling lipsticks from MAC.

Dangerous (Matte)(Permanent)

If you’re looking for a classic orange-based red then Dangerous is what you need. It’s perfect for spring and summer because it will make your skin look more vibrant regardless of skin tone. Since it is a matte finish, it will last 3 to 5 hours even with eating and drinking.

Scarlet Ibis (Matte)(Limited Edition)

Scarlet Ibis was originally released with the Iris Apfel collection in December 2011. Due to its popularity, it was re-released in 2012 with the Marilyn Monroe collection. This is also an orange-based red matte lipstick, however it is easier to apply compared to Dangerous especially on dry lips. Check your local Cosmetic Company Outlet (CCO) store and you may be able to find this coveted shade.

Red Racer (Satin)(Limited Edition)

This red is a blue-based lipstick that was a part of the Hey Sailor collection released in May 2012. The satin texture means it’s better for dry lips but, it still last for hours like a matte.

Ruby Woo (Matte)

Ruby Woo is probably MAC’s best selling lipstick around the world. It’s a classic pin-up girl red color that looks good on literally everyone. This is definitely a statement lip color that can be paired with a neutral/natural makeup look. If you have dry lips its important to exfoliate and moisturize before applying Ruby Woo.
