Tile Mate trackers don’t find your stuff

Misplacing important objects is one of the many things “I’m working on.” I thought technology could help me. What usually happens is I put down my keys or my phone, then 10 minutes later I’m trying to call my phone and retrace my steps to figure out where my keys are. I purchased Tile hoping that if I ever lost my keys, they could help me find them.

I have had Tile for a little over a year and at first it was working out well. I would use the app to track down my keys in my house and I would find them. In order to find my keys I would turn on my phone’s Bluetooth, locate my keys and then turn the Bluetooth off again.

My Tile Mate, $25

Where I ran into an issue is when I actually lost my keys. After brunch, dinner, and an evening of hanging out, I got home and realized I had no keys to open my front door. The vest I was wearing didn’t have pockets, the keys weren’t in my purse, and called every place I went that day. No keys.

As soon as I realized the keys were lost I tried to find them with the Tile tracker. Supposedly, the Tile community was trying to help locate my keys too. Tile never located my keys. At $25 I expected this tracker to at least tell me which boroughs my keys were in.

Then I remembered I e-hailed 2 cabs through the app Juno and that my keys could be in either of those cabs. I was put in contact with both cab drivers and one had my keys.

Since this product was not able to help me track my keys when I actually lost them, I am going find a new tracker.
