Do you need a phone with an “edge”?
One of the latest innovations from Samsung for its new phones has been the “edge.” What is the edge you ask? The edge is a curve in your phone screen that allows you to access various apps on the phone. In addition to apps, the edge also displays notifications for your phone, text messages, and emails.
The phones that include this new feature are Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6+, and the Note Edge. Personally, I own the Note Edge. I think the edge was an interesting innovation and I find it very helpful. My favorite way to use the edge is to control my music while using other apps. For example, if I want to change the song I’m listening to on Spotify without leaving Google maps, I can just swipe the edge until I reach the music controls and change the song.
Another way I use the edge is to access my most used apps. It’s easy to choose which apps you want in the edge. Chase, phone, camera, contacts, Internet, text messages, and the Google apps are the ones in my edge. Conveniently all the Google apps (except for play store) are all located under one icon in the edge.
Sadly, everything about the edge isn’t perfect. Taking selfies with these phones is so hard. Also the odd shape means you have to be more conscience of how you hold it. Since the side with the edge is round, it’s hard to balance the phone between just a few fingers to get anything done.
The main issue that has stopped most people from getting the edge is the price. Currently the Galaxy S6 cost $579, and the Galaxy S6 edge cost $679. Similarly, the Galaxy Note 5 cost $699, and the Galaxy S6 plus cost $779. The extra $100 or $80 is a big difference for someone who is already spending over $600 on a phone. I personally like to invest in my electronics however; I understand that the average person doesn’t want to spend that much money.
What you need to know: The edge is pretty cool. It’s the most unique phone feature that’s come from Samsung. Before you purchase a phone with an edge, make sure you try it before you invest.
