Store bought wigs vs. Customs wigs

Artificial hair has been helping people achieve the hair of their dreams for centuries. Ancient Egyptians, French aristocrats and everyday people enjoy wearing wigs. Now, wigs have become an international billion-dollar industry that helps people instantly change their hair.

The latest trend in wigs is custom wigs. These wigs are measured to specifically fit one persons head. Store bought wigs usually come in standard sizes and can be found in the latest trends.

Store bought wigs are by far the most popular type of wigs that are purchased by consumers. There are thousands of different types of wigs made of both human and synthetic hair. Synthetic hair wigs usually cost from $25 -100, while human hair wigs range from $60-400. Wigs made with virgin hair cost from $300-1500.

Store bought wigs come in four sizes, small to extra large and the numbers 1 through 4 usually notes these sizes. Trying on these wigs is the only way to know how it will fit on your head. Human hair wigs (that aren’t made with virgin hair) can be treated with chemicals that may cause allergic reactions to sensitive skin.

One of the benefits of store bought wigs, is that they are usually already styled and cut. The latest styles like the long bob, ombre, and long layers are already created and all you have to do is put it on. The drawbacks to store bought wigs include they are usually to tight, the look “wiggy”, and the sit very high on your head. Once a store bought wig has these issues, you can’t fix it. You can try to trim it or brush it but it will still look bad. Synthetic wigs get frizzy when you sweat and tangle very easily.

Custom wigs are wigs made especially for one person. Your head is measured and the cap is designed to fit your head. Weaving hair that is on a weft is sewn to the cap to create the wig. A closure is placed in the front for a more natural look, including lace and silk closures. Some custom wigs have a “U” or “V” section cut out of the front so that you can leave out some of your natural hair.

This is the second u part wig I ever made.

Most custom wigs are made with human hair, which last twice as long as synthetic. Since customs wigs are becoming popular so quickly, it’s important you find a trusted wig maker. If someone doesn’t have experience making at least 20 wigs, think twice about giving them your hard earned money.   The major drawback to custom wigs is the price. The hair cost from $200-700 and to make the wig it can cost upward of $150.

It is impossible to choose a clear winner in this wig battle. Your budget and lifestyle really dictate which wig would be best for you. For example, I have a very large head and I find even the largest store bought wigs give me headaches. I prefer custom wigs (specifically u-part wigs) because I use virgin hair and they fit comfortably without rubbing out my edges.
