Beauty Battle: Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick vs. Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick
Winter is here, which means your skin needs every bit of extra moisture it can get. Even if you normally have oily skin, it will be at it’s driest this time of year. One way to help your skin stay moist is by using a cream foundation. Compared to liquid and powder foundations, cream foundations have more moisturizing ingredients that will help combat dehydrated skin in the cooler weather. The tried and true stick foundation for years has been Bobbi Brown’s Skin Foundation Stick. This fall Hourglass came out with their own version of a stick foundation and it is taking the YouTube beauty-verse by storm. Here is what you need to know about each foundation and which one is the best.
Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick comes in 31 shades and cost $46 for 0.31 ounces of product. The shade range has red tones, gold tones, and neutral tones so you will easily find a match for your skin color. This product glides across your skin without tugging or pulling on your skin. The finish is a natural matte and it doesn’t cling to dry patches. Whether you have oily, combination, or dry skin you will love this foundation.
However for those with oily and combination skin, you may need to wear a mattifying primer. I usually wear a primer on my t-zone when I wear this foundation (I have combination skin). Another drawback to this foundation is that you can’t use it for full coverage all year round. During the spring and summer month you will need to use this foundation very sparingly or else you will feel like you’re wearing a mask. This mask feeling is intensified when the skin on your face begins to sweat. In fall and winter this foundation adds the extra moisturizing that your face will need. To recap, here are the pros and cons of Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick:
Pros
Neutral, red tone, and yellow tone shades
Natural matte finish
Works for all skin types
Moisturizes and glides onto skin
Cons
Not suitable for hot and humid weather
Needs to be used with a primer for some skin types
Can look oily
One of the newest stick foundations that have become very popular is Hourglass’ Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick. It can be purchased at Sephora for $46 (for 0.25 ounces of product) and it is available in 26 shades. The packaging is beautiful; it’s the most modern looking stick foundation on the market. The triangular shape is surprisingly useful, especially when applying the foundation to your cheeks and forehead. It has satin finish, similar to more glowy foundations.
In terms of the “vanishing seamless finish” that has not been my experience. Most of the shades of this foundation have a red tone. It was very hard for me to find a match for my skin tone. The foundation pulled at my skin when I tried to stripe it on my face. The red undertone was less obvious once I blended the foundation with my beauty blender. The foundation made my skin look every oily however, when I tried to wear the foundation with the Hourglass primer I thought my face was about to crack. So, the only way to combat the shiniest is by setting it with a powder. Without the powder, the foundation does not look like real skin, completely unnatural. Before buying this foundation, here is what you should no:
Pros
Beautiful design
Easy to use
Satin finish
Cons
Only has red tone and neutral shades
Does not apply smoothly
Comes with only 0.25 ounces of product
The winner: Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick is one of the most iconic products in the beauty industry. The finish looks naturally beautiful and is long lasting. Hourglass tried, but their product does not stack up.
